Air Conditioning & Heating FAQs
Your AC carries a heavy load in Houston. Here's how to spot trouble early, when replacement makes sense and how to keep your system efficient.
Repairs and warning signs
What are signs my AC needs service?
Warm air from the vents, weak airflow, a system that turns on and off often, ice on the refrigerant lines, water around the indoor unit, new noises or smells, rising humidity indoors, or a power bill that jumps without explanation.
Why is there water around my indoor unit?
Usually the condensate drain line is clogged with algae or debris, so water backs up into the pan and overflows. Turn the system off and call before the water damages your ceiling or floor.
How quickly can you come out?
Call (281) 416-5474 Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm, and we'll get you on the schedule.
Do you work on heating too?
Yes. We service and repair home heating as well as air conditioning.
Repair or replace
How do I know if I should replace my system?
Replacement usually makes sense when the system is 10 to 15 years old, repairs are getting frequent or expensive, it still uses R-22 refrigerant, or it can't keep the house comfortable. We'll give you the repair cost and the replacement cost so you can compare.
What should a replacement include?
A proper replacement starts with sizing the system to your home, not just matching the old unit. It should cover the indoor and outdoor equipment, refrigerant lines, drain and electrical connections, a thermostat, haul-off of the old equipment, and a check of your ductwork.
Efficiency and maintenance
How often should I change my air filter?
Check it monthly and change it every one to three months, more often with pets or allergies. The Department of Energy says replacing a dirty filter can cut AC energy use by 5% to 15%.
How often should my system be serviced?
Twice a year is ideal: the AC in spring and the heat in fall. See our AC inspection checklist for what a spring visit should cover.
What thermostat setting saves the most?
The Department of Energy says you can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by turning your thermostat back 7 to 10 degrees for 8 hours a day. A programmable or smart thermostat does it for you.
Do leaky ducts matter?
Yes. ENERGY STAR says about 20% to 30% of the air moving through a typical duct system is lost to leaks, holes and poor connections. Sealing ducts in a hot attic is one of the best upgrades for comfort.
